Cultural Hike

Portugal has a vast and rich history. Humans have inhabited these lands for thousands of years and left many traces of their presence. This is a journey through our cultural and historical legacy.

It is fascinating to reflect upon the thousands of years in which many different civilizations inhabited the mountains of Sintra. This area has always been portrayed as mystical and sacred, shrouded in mystery and legend. Both Romans and Moors alike recognized its magic, just as many poets and artists have visited the area for inspiration.

Discover some of the ancient stories of these mesmerizing landscapes and how they mirror a graceful balance between the natural world and the human presence - one of the many beautiful details that make this area unique. In fact, Sintra was the first European site listed by UNESCO as a Cultural Landscape.

The Sintra-Cascais Natural Park, is our chosen setting for this walk. Its forest’s rich vegetation and higher elevation create a microclimate whose features make it quite different from the surrounding landscape - such as the mists that cloak these mountains, undoubtedly contributing to the area’s magical atmosphere.
